Concentric
Rehabilitation Centre
Concentric was formed to provide a unique and innovative approach to the provision of allied health in aged care, that is, through the establishment of rehabilitation centres co-located in the aged care home.
The rehabilitation centres offer both residents and the general public access to on-site, high quality privately funded allied healthcare services including physiotherapy, exercise physiology, occupational therapy, podiatry, and psychology. We have brought together experts in each of these fields and incorporated our unique pain-to-performance model which follows our ‘remove your pain, restore your movement and redefine your potential’ philosophy.
Two years since our inaugural centre opened within Opal Aged Care in Ashfield, NSW, Concentric now has 15 sites across Australia, with a further 10 planned over the next 12 months. Across these 15 sites, there is an average of 60 percent of residents participating in regular rehabilitation programs.
Our Goal
Our goal is not to just manage your condition but actually help you reach a higher level of function, mobility, strength and independence.
Our Vision
We will be recognised globally as pioneers in rehabilitation by redefining the norms, engaging, enriching and empowering lives.
Our Mission
To redefine the healthcare experience to make it engaging, personalized and convenient.
How Concentric Started
To truly understand the genesis of this project, you need to understand how Concentric Rehabilitation Centre came about.
Angeline Violi, director of Concentric Healthcare Services, was prompted to act when her grandmother sadly passed away due to inadequate rehabilitation following a hip fracture sustained in an aged care home.
Angeline’s grandmother was prematurely discharged from hospital to an aged care home under the assumption that a contracted physiotherapist would provide the necessary rehabilitation required.
Due to an unfortunate combination of insufficient time, resources and restrictions of the current aged care funding model, Angeline’s grandmother did not receive the services required to correctly rehabilitate her and she subsequently passed away due to related complications.
Angeline’s personal loss motivated her to explore better rehabilitation solutions within the aged care industry.
Traditional physiotherapy models of care within residential aged care focused on pain management instead of rehabilitation and reablement. However, Angeline believed it was time to give residents what they need, not what the funding models dictates.
Concentric’s executive team pitched their idea of offering rehabilitation on-site to residents to many aged care providers. For over a year they couldn’t break into the market as providers couldn’t see past the limitations of the aged care funding model.
In 2016, Opal Aged Care’s then CEO was looking at ways to offer their residents greater choice and to better cater to peoples’ different preferences. As both businesses were looking for a better solution, when they met up in June of the same year, the scene was set for a mutually beneficial partnership.
Following over 12 months of planning that involved extensive stakeholder engagement, starting with the executive teams of both partners, and then expanding to include clinicians and aged care residents, the partners developed a service offering which was both economically and clinically viable.
Since this initial period, Concentric has now evolved into a national provider, partnering with a number of aged care providers who share the same vision.
